☁️ When the Clouds Roll In: Finding God in the Dreary Days

It’s been one of those weeks — the kind where the sky stays a dull shade of gray, the air is thick and sticky, and the sun feels like it packed its bags and took a little vacation. The kind of days where you feel… blah. You know what I mean. You’re not falling apart. You’re just... meh. Unmotivated. Tired. Maybe a little cranky. Maybe a lot. Even the coffee isn’t hitting the same. Even the prayers feel a little sluggish. Even the smallest tasks feel like dragging your feet through molasses. But here’s the truth: God is still in these days too.

☔ When Rain Seeps into the Soul

These rainy, dreary stretches do something to us. They change our rhythm. They affect our moods. Sometimes they expose feelings we didn’t even know were still hanging around — sadness, loneliness, worry, irritation. And while it’s easy to chalk it all up to the weather, I think these cloudy days can also stir up something deeper in us — a quiet invitation. What if the rain isn't just weather? What if it’s a holy reminder to slow down and look up?

🕊️ God Shows Up in the Gloom Too

When we read through Scripture, we often see God move in the most unlikely places:

- In caves and deserts.

- In prisons and storms.

- In grief and questions.

- In long nights and silent mornings.

The Psalms are filled with dreary-day prayers: “Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me?” Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. — Psalm 42:11

This is the kind of verse that doesn’t pretend the sadness isn’t real — it just refuses to stop hoping.

🌧️ Letting Go of the Gloom

So, what do we do when the rain moves in — not just outside, but inside us too? Here are a few truths to anchor yourself in this week:

1. God is still speaking — even in the drizzle.   The gray doesn’t mean God has gone silent. Sometimes He whispers loudest in the stillness. Lean in. Turn off the noise. Let Him speak.

2. It’s okay to feel what you’re feeling.   God doesn’t shame us for our moods or emotions. He welcomes them. You don’t need to “get over it.” You get to bring it to Him.

3. Faith doesn’t require sunshine.   You don’t have to wait for a good day to trust God. These are the days your roots grow deeper.

🌼 A Midweek Prayer

God of clouds and sun, of dry days and drenched hearts. We come to You tired, scattered, and just a little soggy. But we know you’re here. Meet us in the quiet. Speak into the heaviness. Lift the fog or help us walk through it with You. Give us eyes to see You, even behind the clouds. Amen.

💬 Something to Think About

- What has this week stirred up in you?

- What do you need to hand over to God today?

- Where have you seen glimpses of grace in the gloom?

If you’ve been feeling off this week — you’re not alone. But you’re also not stuck there. Let this midweek pause be your reset button. God is still present. Still speaking. Still working in you and through you. Even when the sun’s not shining. We’ll see you Saturday, rain or shine. 🌦️Your seat in the circle is waiting.
